Hamas’ popularity among Palestinians surged after October 7. This was no real surprise, as the Palestinian Authority’s aim is to murder Jews and destroy Israel, just as Hamas aspires to do. The two are both barbaric, a perfect match made in hell.
Hamas’ intent, even while it is getting pummeled in Gaza, is to gain control of a combined Palestinian national unity government “to manage both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.” Israel will never allow this.
“Hamas open to unity govt with Palestinian Authority: Haniyeh,” Daily Sabah, January 2, 2024:
Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas’s political bureau, said that they are open to the idea of a national unity government to run the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
“We are open to all national components to rebuild our national reference under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization democratically, in addition to agreeing to a national government for the West Bank and the Gaza Strip,” he said in a recorded speech.
“Gaza will not see chaos or political vacuum until an agreement is reached on forming a national unity government to manage both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank,” he stressed.
The Gaza Strip and West Bank have been politically divided since 2007 since Hamas seized control of the enclave following clashes with forces of the Palestinian Authority.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposes the return of the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority to the Gaza Strip following the current Israeli war on the enclave.
Haniyeh said his group presented its response to Egypt and Qatar regarding proposals for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip…..

I think Israel should allow a unity government, w/o giving them back Gaza, and the next time Hamas attacks Israel, the latter should use that as a pretext to go on an all-out war against the entire Palestinian authority and totally dismantle it
Kenneth Johnson says
Of course Hamas is seeking union with the Palestinian Authority. It’s a matter of surfvivalk for Hamasl Go on Israel, finish the job.KEN
John Smith says
Agreed Ken, finish the job.

When Hamas has a chance, it will betray the Palestinian Authority again if Gaza and West Bank are united. Muslim elites have been fighting to each other to have the power ever since Muhammad’s death, and it will be like this forever.
Islam is just a tool to gain power and wealth, so muslims not only fight the non muslims, but also fight other muslims.

Islam is just a tool to gain wealth is the CORRECT ANSWER.

The PA/PLO/Fatah and Hamas have always fit the description of a gang much better than a religion. Even people who have never read any sociology literature should see this pretty clear these days.

What do these words mean?
“Gaza will not see chaos or political vacuum until an agreement is reached on forming a national unity government to manage both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank,”
After they form a national unity party then chaos will be seen?!!
Is that why tunnels are being built under Jewish homes in Judea- the land of the Jews? Of course the leadership speaks of battles while they bask in luxury and people have to fend for themselves. Caring for the people is not the responsibility of the rulers! Hard to believe such a disgusting, corrupt entity is tolerated by the population.

Hamas promotes the idea of a unity government with the Palestinian Authority
……………………………………..
Hamas took over Gaza by mass slaughtering PA members and supporters.
PA supporters fled to–you guessed it–to Israel to escape their murderous coreligionists, and condemned Israel for stopping them long enough to make sure they weren’t wearing suicide bomb vests.
Yet most “Palestinians” hate Jews, but are fine with homicidal Hamas…
