Pro-Russian hackers attempted to infiltrate Lithuanian military system

On February 3, the Lithuanian Armed Forces detected a suspicious login to the user account of its distance learning information system ILIAS. Pro-Russian hackers claim to have infiltrated the military systems of Lithuania and other NATO countries.

The pro-Russian hackers under the name Just Evil say they had hacked into the military systems of the US and the Baltic states, including Lithuania. The post on X claims that the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ ILIAS system was hacked.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces confirmed to LRT.lt that a suspicious login to the user account of the ILIAS distance learning information system was detected on February 3.

“For this reason, three servers of the State Telecommunication Centre, hosting the ILIAS training system, have been disabled,” the Armed Forces said.

“The National Cyber Security Centre, in active cooperation with the Lithuanian Armed Forces, has launched an investigation, and the incident is currently classified as a medium cyber incident,” it added.

According to the information available to the Lithuanian Armed Forces, no data has been leaked, but this has yet to be confirmed by the investigation.

“The ILIAS distance learning information system is still disconnected from the external network and is currently being updated,” the Armed Forces said.
