CROWDFUNDING NEWS – When I first stumbled upon the BTF Nixie Watch Kickstarter campaign, it made me flashback to all of our crazy Tokyoflash watch reviews and the OnHand PC watch that I drooled over and ultimately reviewed more than 24 years ago! WOW! Time flies when you’re reviewing gadgets.
What is it?
The BTF Nixie Watch is a wristwatch that takes real neon gas-filled 70s-era Soviet IN16 Nixie tubes to create a vintage meets modern watch. It looks retro, but it features a lift to activate display, wireless charging, and even a timer feature.
Why do I like it?
I like the BTF Nixie Watch because it’s insanely unique. None of your friends are going to have this watch (unless they read The Gadgeteer and order one before you do!). Just met someone new and want to impress them? No problem, just flash this chunky timepiece and watch their eyes light up. Or maybe that’s the glow from the Nixie tubes.

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a more exciting usage of the dir command. ;^)
Pretty cool! These nixie-tube watches have been out for a long time, though. I wish they could make them smaller … like a flattened version of the IN-17. I believe there are a few manufacturers that are making new bulbs (Dalibor Farny?).
These unique watches will likely sell great with watch nerds! I have a few of the old LED watches (pre LCD) and I love them. Got an Electronika LED off etsy from the Ukraine before the war hit. Super neat glowing numbers (like off an old 70s calculator or a Speak and Spell).
