Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Amidst collaborative efforts from various stakeholders within the tourism sector, Puerto Vallarta has once again asserted its dominance in the national hospitality arena. According to Christian Preciado Cázares, the Director of Tourism and Economic Development, the city achieved an outstanding 84.4% hotel occupancy rate from February 12 to 18, marking the fourth consecutive week of securing the top spot nationally.
This announcement, based on data sourced from the Datatur platform, positions Puerto Vallarta ahead of renowned coastal destinations such as Cancún and Los Cabos. Despite facing challenges stemming from the ongoing global situation, Puerto Vallarta has managed to outshine its competitors in the hospitality sector, indicating resilience and adaptability within the local tourism industry.
The report shared weekly by the federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) underscores Puerto Vallarta’s unwavering popularity among travelers. Notably, during week 7 of this year, the destination claimed the coveted first position, surpassing previous occupancy rates and outperforming rivals like Cancún and Los Cabos. Although the figures reflect a slight decline compared to the same period last year, Puerto Vallarta’s occupancy rate of 84.4% remains notably higher than Cancún’s 83.9% and Los Cabos’ 80.8%.
This remarkable streak commenced in week 4 (January 22 to 28), when Puerto Vallarta first surpassed Cancún to emerge as the leading hospitality hub. Director Preciado Cázares attributes this sustained success to a combination of factors, including the destination’s perennial appeal to both domestic and international tourists.
In 2024, Puerto Vallarta continues to attract a diverse range of visitors, with a significant influx of Canadian and American tourists seeking refuge from the harsh winter climates. The city’s idyllic weather conditions during this season further contribute to its allure, drawing in travelers eager to explore its vibrant culture, picturesque landscapes, and world-class amenities.
“Consequently, both in the mornings and in the afternoons and evenings there are still a large number of people on the Malecón and the Romantic Zone, there is a lot of influx in restaurants, bars and beaches, which tells us that we are going to continue with a good amount of tourism the following weeks,” remarked Preciado Cázares, emphasizing the sustained momentum in tourism activity within the region.
As Puerto Vallarta maintains its position as a premier tourist destination, stakeholders remain optimistic about the prospects of continued growth and prosperity in the weeks to come. The collective efforts of industry players, alongside favorable conditions and unwavering visitor interest, affirm Puerto Vallarta’s status as a beacon of hospitality and leisure on Mexico’s picturesque coastline.
