He needed a distraction from his nightmares... she gave him everything.
When she agreed to go to the club with her friends, the last thing NEVAEH LAWRENCE expected was to meet ROMAN PASHKEVICH, an NHL player with deep turquoise eyes she can’t forget.
A year later, Nevaeh’s struggling to make sense of her life and a relationship that has her questioning what she wants for her future. The ring she finds makes old memories reappear and pushes her to break up with her boyfriend.
Roman has everything he wants—or so it seems. In reality, his days are filled with guilt and grief, and his nights are full of nightmares that remind him of the loss of his brother.
Unexpected events lead to Nevaeh and Roman going to Vegas together. After getting drunkenly married, Nevaeh's attraction for her accidental husband grows, but unlike her, he's unwilling to start a romantic relationship because of the demons of his past.
Will Nevaeh be able to convince Roman to give their marriage a real chance, or will she have her heart shattered because the man she loves doesn’t love her back?

Each book I read by Ana gets better and better. Breakaway is her 3rd book in her Sinners on the Ice and it’s definitely a favorite.
This story follows Nevah and Roman. Nevaeh is newly single from a relationship that has became one sided and stale. She has never felt love from her parents growing up. And then there is Roman…hot broody Russian speaking hockey player, who has been suffering from grief since the traumatic death of his brother. After a drunken night in Las Vegas, they end up in accidental marriage. They both decide it was best to stay married for Roman’s hockey career. As they stay married their walls slowly start coming down and they open up to each other…
This story will break your heart and warm it up at the same time. It has so many emotions with the trauma, grief and the power of healing through love. I loved Nevah and Roman so much…they are both broken, incomplete and feel so unworthy of love. They end up being absolutely perfect for one another and heal each other. Seeing Roman open up to Nevaeh little by little was so heartwarming. I just loved seeing him doing the littlest, kindest things for her. It made me want to jump thru the book and give him a big hug. I just love a grumpy MMC but he is literally grumpy to everyone but her and that just makes my heart melt…and um EXCUSE ME his nickname for her…I cannot get enough of him.
Thank you to Ana for the eARC. I am so excited to continue the series and cannot wait to read what is next.

Roman Roman Roman… my beautiful broken boy. I just knew he was going to win my heart over and he absolutely did. This book just might be my new favorite by Anastasija. It will destroy you & put you back together again all by the time it’s done.
Nevaeh is feeling a little lost in life & decides to breakup with her long term boyfriend after finding a ring that he had hidden away because she knows she doesn’t see a future & isn’t ready to get married. With no where to go, she finds herself staying with her best friend’s boyfriend’s teammate, Roman, a Russian speaking NHL player. When Roman invites her on his spontaneous getaway to Vegas, the last thing either of them expected was to end up married…
Thank you Anastasija for allowing me to Beta & ARC read for you! I loved every second of their love story 🩷

Roman and Nevaeh were so good together. This book shows us how you can heal through love, and being love. I loved the way that they heal each other. They a drunken Vegas wedding, and decide to stay married for his hockey´s career. The way that relationship changes was so beautiful, because at the end, they love each other with of their heart. They were perfect, in all the meanings of the word. HE SPEAKS RUSSIAN.

Oh Roman, my sweet broken boy! Grumpy to all, but not to his Malyshka! His past and trauma were so present and brought tears to my eyes every single time.
Neveah was pure sunshine, an absolute ray of sweetness, despite the horrors of her past.
Roman and Neveah had such a pure and unending love and support for each other, they way they cared for each other, was just so damn heart-meltingly cute.
I really believe that through their trauma, albeit a little different, they truly connected with each other. Although at different stages in their way of dealing with it, they were what they needed to move on and finally have the happiness they deserve.
I knew their story would be epic, and it totally lived up to the hype!

Anastasija!! The Sinners on the Ice series just keeps getting better and better. So far, my favorite in the series. I mean I still love my Colt and Ava but Nevaeh & Roman hold a special part in my heart. I couldn’t put this down and if you haven’t read this series yet... here is your sign to start asap.
Breakaway is the 3rd book in the Sinners on the Ice series following Nevaeh Lawrence & Roman Pashkevich. We meet both characters previously in Barn Burner. Nevaeh is fresh out of breaking up with her boyfriend after finding a ring in his drawer and she wasn’t ready and extremely lost in her life. She doesn’t understand the feeling of love. Roman is a teammate to Colton & Drake who is broody and has an extremely broken past. He is still suffering after the sudden death of his brother years later and can’t get past it.
When Roman notices that Nevaeh is at her lowest point. He decides to help her out by offering her to temporarily move into his place until she figures out her next step. This ends up leading to a spontaneous trip to Vegas, where they end up getting married accidentally from a night of drinking. During the time of them being married they both learn how to work on their strengths and weaknesses. They both end up rebuilding each other and put their broken pieces together.
Honestly, this is my favorite read by Anastasija. I loved everything. Broken MMC? SIGN ME UP. This story was incredible. Anastasija you KILLED IT with this one. Thank you and the team for this eARC.
Nevaeh and Roman had mutual friends, but they had never communicated closely. And when their next meeting took place, under different circumstances, it was clear that this was exactly how their encounter should have happened. What happened in Vegas wouldn't stay in Vegas forever, as they were now husband and wife.
The most interesting thing was how sweet Roman spoke about Nevaeh – "My wife" (Stooop. I'm in love!). He was opening up to her. Roman, with his secrets and injuries, wasn't revealed to everyone, but when Nevaeh saw how he was suffering, she couldn't stay away.
Nevaeh was a simple girl with a big heart. She became part of Roman's family, which included not only his mother but also his friends. (And his mother is also wonderful!) Roman's friends saw that there was more between them than just a business arrangement. Their attraction is hard to deny, so when they stop hiding it, they simply dive into this passion and enjoy the moment.
I was deeply saddened by the story of Roman. I cried every time I thought about him.
The book was emotional. Thank you again to my dear friend Anastasija for writing this book. I am proud of you!
This book! I've been waiting for this one and it didn't disappoint, I freaking loved this book so much. This one broke my heart and then put it back together again 🩷 Roman and Nevaeh's story is an emotional one.
She helps him when she hears him having nightmares and she's the only person he's ever opened up to about his past 🥺 I love that he cooks for her, I love that he calls her Malyshka🫠and I love Romans mum 😍 I honestly just loved it all 🩷 it is a bit of a slow burn but oh so worth it.
We get to see a fair bit of Angie and Drake, as well as Ava and Colt which I loved 😍
Roman and Nevaeh have now topped my favourite book couple of Anastasija's 😍 counting down now until Power Play releases 😂 thank you so much Anastasija for the arc 🫶🏼
There was so much like “baggage” that the author tried to tie these people too to make the story more emotional but it just didn’t work, like let’s let spades be spades and let hockey romances be dumb. It was fine, but like I wouldn’t recommend this to a friend lol
Neveah is the kind of female character I would like to see in all the books. She was loving, strong, empathetic and fought for Roman. SHe did not hide his feelings and did not run away when he encountered problems in the relationship. I loved so much this book! ❤️
3 I liked the promise of this storyline. It had a lot of potential and I wanted to love it but I didn’t feel connected to the characters. It was almost as if their walls they built to keep each other out worked on me instead. Once they did get to know each other and break down each others walls, falling in love, I liked it a little better but still felt like an outsider instead of being immersed inside the book. Roman and Nevaeh both have things they needed to work on for themselves and I partially felt like Roman was selfish through most of the book, but finally realizing he had feelings started to break that habit. I do want to give this author another shot.

First of all sign me up Russian classes😩 cause I’m trying to be someone’s ✨Malyshla✨. This book gave me all the feels. Where do I begin, this story was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. This book explores so many emotions- trauma, grief, and the power of healing through love and friendship. Nevaeh and Romans story is the epitome of “Right person, right time”. Both broken, incomplete, and longing for love and happiness yet feeling so unworthy and scared.
Nevaeh is newly single from a relationship that has became one sided and stale. She has never felt love from her parents growing up. She longs for love and attention that she was so much deprived of. Then there is Roman- hot Russian speaking hockey player who suffer from grief and haunted nightmare from the traumatic death of his brother. There is never a day he doesn’t think of his brother and not blame himself.
After a drunken night in Viva Las Vegas, Roman and Nevaeh end up in accidental marriage. They both decide it was best to stay married for Roman’s hockey career. Along the way, their walls slowly come down and open to one another of their past that haunts them. Nevaeh loves Roman through his darkness and pain. She is the light to his darkness and together, Roman and Nevaeh shine brightly✨. The passionate and unconditional love and support Nevaeh gives and shows to Roman is so admirable. Nevaeh who lacked love and care from her own parents didn’t stop her for giving heart and showing love to Roman. It was so sad to know Roman, who had the career of his dream and money yet still feel empty, numb, lonely and hurt deep inside.
Little did Nevaeh and Roman know, they were the missing piece to each other’s broken hearts and silent prayers. They both realize they are worthy of love and happiness. I love the courage to help each other overcome their obstacles and took each other’s pain away. Roman’s and Nevaeh were perfect for on another.
I adore Nevaeh and Angie’s friendship. They are definitely friendship goals through thick and thin. They bring truth to the statement that “family isn’t always blood”.

Thank you so much anastasija for letting me ARC read for you, i enjoyed it so much!!
feeling: neutral and bittersweet towards roman and his malyshka
i didn’t like this as much as i hoped i would, the premise was all too enticing, the cover so lovely, but the execution wasn’t it for me. i won’t say bad execution because truly, it wasn’t. the story is well written and very emotionally-provoking, filled with raw moments that were written delicately with the trauma of both roman and nevaeh, however, i feel like it was such a slow read. hockey romance and accidental marriage with two characters that have their own emotional battles… i guess it’s a slow burn? i think i opened this book expecting a little more of a fast paced read.
at the end of it, i didn’t hate it but also didn’t love it wholly.
i need to add: roman pashkevich??? belarusian man… filthy filthy FILTHY like wow

What a book!! Nevaeh and Roman were perfect! They couldn't be more perfect for each other. They were meant to be from the start. I loved the depth each character had and how much importance their backstory had. Roman was truly a troubled and pained man who had been through so much, so to be guarded was normal. Seeing that man open himself and his heart to Nevaeh was one of the most beautiful things throughout the book. The "My Wife" moments had me in my knees. The accidental marriage will always be a fave of mine just for those simple words. I was on my knees each time he said it! Nevaeh stole my heart with her caring and sweet side. I loved her independent and passionate side. She had this fire in her that was so admiring! She was Roman's other half, and she was his peace and comfort. She was the person he needed in order to find his future and his happiness. Their chemistry was incredible and truly magnificent, especially when each of their moments was perfection. Their love shined brighter than anything else and gave them both the opportunity to find their forever person. I couldn't have asked of a more beautiful couple! The epilogue was the cutest and one of the many ways you could truly see how much they loved each other.

I swear my heart broke a few times for these two. They both have so many broken pieces but they mend them together. I loved seeing how they found their way to each other and found peace within each other. And let's take a moment for Roman speaking Russian 🥵
Anastasija did a beautiful job at showing a relationship while they are both handling a whirlwind of emotions. There is grief and love and trauma and healing. Cant wait for the world to meet these two🤍

My thoughts: I’ve grown to enjoy this series, so I was excited to start this one. I didn’t know Roman well, since he only appeared a handful of times in Barn Burner. But since he was front and center here, I really grew to adore him. He had some demons that broke my heart to read about, and it was very understandable that he would struggle from them. I could also relate to the low self-esteem and feeling unworthy of love, but at the end of the day, every individual is special to someone. And Roman is special to many people. Nevaeh had her share of trauma as well, and it was healing to see her and Roman work through them together. Her hesitation to be transparent when it came to Travis at first, as well as poor communication on both her and Roman’s ends were a little irritating, but for the most part, I enjoyed their characters, individually and as a couple. I’m probably a bit generous with the star rating, because that third act conflict was a bit frustrating. Like I said, they had poor communication, and third act breakups stemming from miscommunication is among my most hated tropes. And the resolution of it didn’t feel wholly satisfying. The ex faced no consequences for sabotaging the article apart from a “I hope you can live with yourself” speech from Nevaeh. However, when it comes down to it, Roman and Nevaeh will always find their way back to each other, and do anything for each other.

You meet both Nevaeh and Roman in book 2. I was always super intrigued by Nevaeh and was excited when Ana announced that book 3 would be about her and Roman. There's just something about flamboyant and confident characters that attract me towards them.😍
Roman was a sweetheart. I LOVED that man. My respect for Roman grew as the story progressed. His standards were top notch, and he never wavered from them. While I like my stoic and alpha men, I also love sensitive men! Roman was a mixture of both! Swoon, am I right?!?!?🫠🤌
Thank you, Ana, for the opportunity of an ARC! I'm super excited for Clay and Layla's reunion!🥺

I was so excited to get an ARC for this book. I love the Sinner on the Ice Series, and Roman and Nevaeh are my favorite couple. You don’t want to miss out on their wild ride!
This book is an accidental marriage with a broken hero and heroine. Together they can help put back the pieces of one another. It took a lot for them to grow into the people they both knew they could be. Healing from trauma and leaning on each other always makes me fall more in love with the characters.
I don’t know if Anastasija could write a more a better story. I love the moments he called her “malyshka” or “my wife”. It was sweet and endearing. Gah this was such a great read!
Roman has everything he wants or so it seems. In reality, his days are filled with guilt and grief, and his nights are full of nightmares that remind him of the loss of his brother. Nevaeh’s struggling to make sense of her life and a relationship that has her questioning what she wants for her future. The ring she finds makes old memories reappear and pushes her to break up with her boyfriend.
This is such a cute story with the relationship development between them both, from attraction with an accidental marriage to an actual relationship. But it also hits hard with the Roman story with the grieve of losing his brother and Nevaeh struggling in her limbo between relationship. Grieving and coming to terms with the end of her last relationship but also navigating the new one she finds herself in.
They both heal each other so beautifully and provide support for one another with their respective problems. It makes their relationship better for it.

First, I want to thank the author for giving me the chance to read an advanced copy of this book. It was my first time reading anything of this author and I absolutely loved it.
I loved the banter and chemistry between the protagonists. And I loved Nevaeh’s friendship with Angie. We all need a friend like that.
And Roman?? My sweet, broken boy. I absolutely loved him. And I loved how the author wrote about past traumas and how at the end of the story, we realize that no matter what, we are worth it and deserving of love.

5⭐️/ 3-4🌶️
Anastasija White knows how to write amazing sports romances with enjoyable tropes, but also lovable characters with depth, vulnerabilities, and heart. Plus, with the added heat of spice, and good hearted moments sprinkled throughout the story, it always leaves me feeling happy and all kinds of good when I read her stories. When I saw this story was going to be centered on Angie’s best friend, Nevaeh and Drake’s teammate, Roman, with accidental marriage and other goodies, I WAS EXCITED!
Nevaeh and Roman’s lives weren’t going as expected when the story started. With Nevaeh, she felt like she wasn’t in a good place despite getting a job promotion, and having a loving boyfriend. The looming future of her boyfriend planning to take their relationship to the next step made Nevaeh realize that she wasn’t herself and definitely wasn’t ready for anything more with her boyfriend. For Roman, with recurring nightmares, lack of sleep, and grief from his past making a reappearance, he wasn’t in the best head space either. Both, Nevaeh and Roman needed a break from everything, and when a newly single, Nevaeh found herself being invited to go to Las Vegas with Roman, it seemed like a spontaneous good idea…right?
An accidental marriage wasn’t the plan when Nevaeh and Roman went to Las Vegas, but you know what they say, VIVA LAS VEGAS! WOO! I really loved the accidental marriage trope in this story! Seeing how Roman and Nevaeh were suddenly married together not only made them husband and wife, but also add into the fact that Nevaeh was basically already temporarily living with Roman in his apartment, FORCED PROXIMITY! OMG YESSSS! While I’m not one who usually goes out of their way to read stories with the jealousy trope, seeing how each Roman and Nevaeh found themselves getting lowkey jealous over seeing others hit on them made me think, “YUP THEY TOTALLY LIKE EACH OTHER!!!” I was throughly enjoying every moment!
Now, I loved Drake and Angie (*I still do), but…goodness gracious, ROMAN AND NEVAEH STOLE MY HEART!!!! I loved their story so much and not to mention the moments that further made me swoon and make my JAW DROP! Nevaeh was trying to find herself, work on her life in general, but seeing how she was with Roman made me see that even early on, ROMAN WAS THE MAN FOR HER! Travis was a decent guy, but compared to Roman, it was CLEAR AS DAY that Travis wasn’t the guy for Nevaeh. With Roman, Nevaeh found herself inexplicably happy, and unable to describe the amount of times Roman made her feel butterflies in her stomach. Roman was equally a star in this story, and MY GOODNESS I LOVED HIM! Seeing Roman open up to Nevaeh little by little was significant as well as seeing him do the kindest things for her. There was plenty of times that made me SWOON, and want to hug Roman so much because, (sigh) that handsome beautiful Russian speaking man was sentimental at heart and it showed when he gifted Nevaeh a really sweet gift later on in the story!!!!
Anastasija really nailed this story! With the few books of hers that I’ve had, she continues to create such wonderful fun stories with depth. Seeing Drake and Angie again was great, but having Roman and Nevaeh center stage in their own story was even better! The accidental marriage trope in this story was PERFECTION! Nevaeh was like sunshine, and for Roman he gradually embraced all the warmth and love Nevaeh brought into his life. Roman dealt with a lot of inner guilt and grief, but over the course of the story, he learned that he didn’t need to punish himself over what happened in his past. This story mentioned some heavy topics, but the way Anastasija wrote it wasn’t overwhelming, just the right amount of detail to fully get me to understand both Roman and Nevaeh’s minds in what they dealt with individually. The romance was FANTASTIC! I WAS LEGITIMATELY SWOONING, GIGGLING, GASPING IN EXCITEMENT OVER THE SWEET ROMANTIC THINGS ROMAN DID FOR NEVAEH! Roman really was out there loving on his wife, and I WAS HERE FOR IT! The spice was equally hot and passionate! MY GOODNESS! HOT HOT HOT! I fully had so much fun reading this story, but also finding myself getting emotional over Roman and Nevaeh’s stories. I instantly felt a connection to both Nevaeh and Roman, and knew instantly that this book was an immediate five stars in my heart. Plus, it had me wanting to read it again or even prolong finishing the book because I didn’t want it to end! I loved the romance, everything about Nevaeh and Roman, the chemistry was off the charts, the epilogue was a really sentimental and beautiful way to end Roman and Nevaeh’s story! I’m even more intrigued to see who will be the main couple in the next book… I have my theories, but I won’t say haha. Highly recommend!

My Thoughts When Roman and Neveah meet there is this unbelievable pull between the two of them but nothing happens as Naveah is in a relationship with Travis.
When Naveah finds a ring and Travis is about to propose to her she panics and ends things with him. Roman and Nevaeh then run into each other at a bar and I loved seeing this protective side to Roman when he thinks Nevaeh is drunk and about to be taken advantage off.
Events lead to them heading to Vegas together and you know what happens when a couple gets drunk in Vegas ......
Roman asks Nevaeh to stay married to him till the hockey season is over and she agrees.
Anatasija - I am billing you for the number of tissues I needed reading this book!! The emotions I felt reading about Roman and his story broke my heart. And Nevaeh comforting him I just cannot even deal!!!
I just loved this book so much and it was beautiful seeing them form the most beautiful bond.
Also Roman calling Nevaeh, Malyshka had me MELTING!!!!!
THE SPICE WAS SO GOOD TOO!!!!
Overall, what a beautiful book!!! I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
Thank you to Anastasija and Wordsmith Publicity for kindly sending me this arc to read and review. This review is my own honest opinion on the book.
- this is a accidental marriage book - I love the mmc so far ( he talks Russian to her and calls her babygirl ( malyshka) in Russian - he is a belrusian mmc though .
- nevs ex bf is ugh - she told him no and that she wanted to break up and he is acting like lilys ex “scooter” from Himym and not taking a hint. ( a himym reference ) . - like bro is still sending her flowers . i mean like i know it’s not his fault nev didn’t feel any real feelings towards him but like she said i wanna break up and he thinks ( she needs a break) because of course he does. . his nave is Travis ( absolute ick of a name) - I mean she did break up with him because she found a ring and he was planning on proposing to her .( but I mean she didn’t wanna be in a loveless marriage like her parents .
- I love Roman so much . - why is he such a sweetheart I also love Neviah so much too like I adore her so much. This book was enjoyable i did like barn burner more in some ways but this one was definitely still an emotional heartbreaking book. It was so emotional ( both characters are broke but Roman is definitely more broken . I love how neviah sees him and how they both make each other better people .
This book really does the accidental marriage trope in a way that doesn’t seem cringy or annoying ( it’s really like a good way to have it done ) . I think I need to get back into reading more Ice hockey romance ngl
I love these two together and they are just perfect for each other .
I loved seeing all the
- i fucking hate Travis ( I love his Dog happy though

I love this series so much, and I’ve been anticipating this book, as I found both of these characters really lovable in ‘Barn Burner’.
Roman. The love I have for this man is massive. He is grumpy to everyone except to Nevaeh. You could see how much he loved her even when he didn’t think he could. I love that he only curses in Russian. I feel so sad for Roman. His past makes me cry.
Nevaeh. My sunshine girly. You can see how unhappy she was with Travis and how much she become herself once she got with Roman. You can tell they are endgame.
Roman bought her a new Sully plush cause her childhood one got ruined. I had actual tears in my eyes.
I loved Colton and Clay in this. They are such great friends to have
Travis had me feeling sorry for him at first then he ruined it. He’s a pig.
The link to the footnotes for the translations were a god send so I didn’t have to keep looking up the translation
I’m super excited for ‘Power Play’. I’m ready for Layla and Clay’s second chance. I adored them in ‘Sin Bin’.

This story follows Nevaeh & Roman. We meet both of these characters previously in Barn Burner. Whole this is a series, you can read it as an interconnected standalone.
Nevaeh is fresh out of a breakup and extremely lost in her life, and she just doesn't understand the feeling of love.
Roman is a teammate to Colton & Drake who is broody and has an extremely broken past. He is still suffering after the sudden death of his brother years later.
When Roman sees Nevaeh at one of her lowest points he decides to help her, and she temporarily moves in with him until she figures things out. This leads to a spontaneous trip to Vegas, then an accidental night of drinking and a whoopsie wedding.
Rather than the embarrassment of the tabloids knowing their mistake, they decide to keep the marriage on the down low, and then will file for divorce.
During this time they learn the inner workings of their strengths and weaknesses and they both help rebuild each other and their broke pieces.
This story will break your heart with seeing both these MCs traumas/losses, but then will piece you back together when you see how they help rebuild each other. The growth of both MCs through this story is incredible.
Roman is the absolute description of grumpyto everyone but not her. There is a great deal of learning new culture and some other language used, including the cutest nickname for her.
