Scarlet Moon Empire Overview

The Scarlet Moon Empire rules the region surrounding Lake Toran.
The imperial capital Gregminster is located at the mouth of the estuary that flows from Lake Toran to the sea.
To the south of the imperial capital is the trading town Lenankamp, and to the east stands Mt. Seifu.
The Floating Fortress of Shasarazade and the Fortress of Kwaba guard the area around the capital.
The Great Forest extends across the Southlands of the empire, and to the west lies Lorimar, known as the home of the Warriors' Village, as well as the domain of the Dragon Knights.
Looking north, an expansive desert wilderness forms the border with the bitter enemy of the empire, the City-States of Jowston.

Historical Groups In The World Of Suikoden

One by one, the 108 Stars of Heaven and Earth gather, and their united power will alter history.
People harbor their own beliefs under two flags, that of the Liberation Army and the Empire.
Ideals, honor, friendship, loyalty, love, ambition... Many emotions drive these souls to the battlefield.
Once all the fighting is said and done, what will they have gained...?

EPISODE 1: The Scarlet Moon Empire

Lake Toran, filled with calm water.
The region surrounding it has been the domain of the Scarlet Moon Empire for 230 years.
The first emperor, Kranach Rugner, took advantage of the civil war raging in Harmonia to declare independence, and the empire has ruled these lands ever since.
In the year 217 of the Scarlet Moon Calender, the "War of Succession" began over the accession to the throne. Geil Rugner, the uncle of Barbarossa Rugner, rightful heir to the throne, capitalized on Barbarossa's absence and held the "Trial of Disinheritance" to snatch away his birthright.
Despite Geil’s forces having the upper hand at the beginning of the civil war, thanks to the combined efforts of the Six Great Generals and strategist Leon Silverberg, Barbarossa was able to reclaim the crown.
He led the subsequent conflict against the City-States of Jowston to victory and took his place as emperor of the Scarlet Moon Empire, both in name and deed.

EPISODE 2: The Liberation War

Both the War of Succession to reclaim the throne and the Border Conflict against the City-States of Jowston, who sought to capitalize on the empire's civil war, were won. The citizens revered Barbarossa for restoring order to the war-torn country in a mere handful of years, dubbing him "The Golden Emperor".
However, as the scars of war healed and the long peace bore on, the emperor gradually came to care little for governing.
Public officials concerned with nothing but lining their own pockets, bandits, pirates, thieves, and the like acted with impunity.
Eventually, a movement arose to free the people from the empire and its political disorder.
At the heart of organizing the Liberation Army was Odessa Silverberg.
The niece of renowned strategist Leon Silverberg, Odessa cast aside her highborn status in favor of opposing the empire's tyranny.

EPISODE 3: The Five Great Generals

During the "War of Succession", there were six generals loyal to Barbarossa, each a commander of surpassing character skilled with both pen and blade.
Ever-Victorious Teo McDohl
Kasim Hazil of the Blue Moon
Milich Oppenheimer, the Flower General
Deathblow Georg Prime
Navy Chief Kilaeua Shulen
Iron Wall Kwanda Rosman
The Six Great Generals.

After the War of Succession, Georg Prime vanished, having fulfilled his "promise".
Kilauea Shulen lost her life in an accident, handing her position down to her daughter, Sonia Shulen.
Thus, what had once been six were now the "Five Great Generals" at the time the liberation movement was born.

EPISODE 4: The 27 True Runes

The tale of creation.
It is said that the 27 True Runes appeared at the beginning of the world.
They brighten flames, makes wind dance, nurture life, and also take it away.
The 27 True Runes are the source of all power that exists in the world.
Though their numbers were limited to but 27 in the ancient past, over time their fragments would birth numerous offspring. In the current age, all runes found in the world are children of the original 27 True Runes.
These runes are found underground in the form of "sealed orbs," which people can choose to bear.
Once a bearer, one is granted the power to weild magic, another is granted superhuman abilities.
In addition to the normal runes, the 27 True Runes that conceal great power that far exceeds that of their regular kin, are also hidden all around the world.

EPISODE 5: The Gate Rune Clan

Several of the locations of the 27 True Runes are already known.
These include the "Circle Rune", held by the Holy Kingdom of Harmonia’s High Priest, Hikusaak, and the "Dragon Rune", possessed by the leader of the Dragon Knights, Joshua.
Bearers of the "27 True Runes" are granted both tremendous power and eternal life.
It follows then that wars have been fought to obtain these runes. The Gate Rune Clan has passed down the "Gate Rune" for generations in secret so as prevent its power from being used for evil.
However, when the Holy Kingdom of Harmonia learned of its existence, they immediately dispatched troops, burning down the village and massacring the entire clan.
Fortunately, the bearer of the Gate Rune secretly escaped the peril and remains in hiding to this day, but according to rumor, the rune may have ended up in the hands of the Scarlet Moon Empire's Court Magician, Windy...
