As a single father, I often feel like the weight of the world sits on my shoulders. When my daughter’s nanny gives me her two weeks’ notice, I’m sweating bullets. Fear that my NHL season with the New England Bay Sharks could be derailed consumes me.
Finding a replacement seems impossible when, suddenly, Maci McKenzie—a struggling author who’s running from some deep, dark secret in her past—steps into the picture. She needs a change of scenery to help her write, and I just need someone who isn’t a complete weirdo to watch my kid when I’m not around.
As we grow closer, I learn she’s struggling to write the so-called “spicy” scenes. And, well, me being the nice fella I am, I offer my assistance and show her how a real man should treat a woman in between the sheets. It’s the perfect deal really. I get off, and she gets the inspiration she needs to write a book.
And not just any book … a hockey romance book.
But like all deals, it’s not black-and-white. Soon, I find myself falling in love with the woman. But the closer I get to her … the further she pulls away. Then, I finally find out what’s haunting her from her past.
Whoever says the truth will set you free has never heard a secret like this one.
Hannah Gray spends her days in vacationland, living in a small, quaint town on the coast of Maine. She is an avid reader of contemporary romance and is always in competition with herself to read more books every year.
During the day, she loves on her three perfect-to-her daughters and tries to be the best mom she can be. But once she tucks them in at night--okay, scratch that. Once they fall asleep next to her in her bed--because their bedrooms apparently have monsters in them--she dives into her own fantasy world, staying awake well into the late-night hours, typing away stories about her characters. As much as she loves being a wife and mom--and she certainly does love it--reading and writing are her outlet, giving her a place to travel far away while still physically being with her family.
She married her better half in 2013, and he's been putting up with her craziness every day since. As her anchor, he's her one constant in this insane, forever-changing world.
4 stars! 💫 First off, a massive thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the ALC – now let’s dive into Logan and Maci’s world because OMG, I’m obsessed! 😍
Okay, let’s talk Tell Me Lies – this is your classic single dad x nanny romance, but with that extra sparkle that makes it unputdownable. Logan Sterns, the hockey-playing single dad who is equal parts goofball and swoon-worthy, had me laughing so hard at his dad jokes and filthy mouth. Seriously, this man is a riot, and he’s even more charming when he’s being the ultimate dad. His bond with his daughter, Amelia, seriously melted my heart. 🥹💕
And then we have Maci McKenzie, a romance author with writer's block who agrees to nanny Logan’s little girl to escape her past and find some inspiration. Well, she certainly finds it… but not just for her book! 😏 The way these two became a team—both in writing spicy scenes and in building something real—was a whole chef’s kiss moment. 👏
Tropes? Oh, we’ve got: 💕 Single dad x nanny 🏒 Pro hockey romance 🏡 Forced proximity 📖 Romance writer FMC 💓 Golden retriever MMC
While I had an amazing time, the twist about 70% in totally threw me off guard—though, I’ve gotta admit, the third-act breakup had me feeling some kinda way. Was it justified? Eh… but hey, what's a romance without a little drama, right? 😅
Also, PSA to all authors: PLEASE, for the love of books, can we get kids in audiobooks to actually sound like kids and not mini-adults?! I get that Amelia was adorable, but no 3-year-old talks like that. 🙄
But let’s focus on the positive—Logan? Total book boyfriend material. He’s the perfect mix of goofy, sweet, and a little naughty. Can’t wait for book two because I’m already hooked on this series! 💖
Huge shoutout to the narrators, Chloe Ryan and Walker Williams! 🎧 They did an AMAZING job bringing Logan and Maci to life, with their voices perfectly matching the fun, flirty, and emotional vibe of the story. You’ll definitely be hooked after listening!
So, if you love steamy romance, a perfectly imperfect family vibe, and a guy who’ll make you laugh and swoon at the same time, Tell Me Lies is YOUR book!
LOGAN STERNS is my new favorite Hannah Gray book boyfriend and I will fight anyone that claims to love him more than me.
This man is perfections 100/10. No notes. I will accept 0 criticism on this book or this man.
🩵 Hockey Romance 🩵 Single Dad x Nanny 🩵 Romance Author FMC 🩵 Golden Retriever MMC 🩵 Forced Proximity 🩵 He Falls First
This man is a DADDY in every sense of the word! Not only is he a great father to the adorable Amelia, this man has a MOUTH. Like Yes. The spice, all the yes. All the sweating, all the praise kink, everything about this was fantastic!
There is nothing I love more than a single dad x nanny trope, and having Maci be a romance author on top of that. It was the vibe I didn’t know I needed. Plus Hannah had to add on a little extra to make my heart bottom out a time or two and the emotional parts of this wrecked me!
I love that Hannah has started writing professional hockey. I will forever love my puckboys (and seeing sweet Link made me happy) but I am ALL IN on the Sharks era.
If you have not read this author yet, GO RIGHT NOW. She is fantastic!
It was okay up until the "twist"? It made no sense, why does she feel guilty when she didn't do anything wrong?
Logan's (ML) baby mama ran a red light, crashed into Maci's (FL) car and because of that crash Maci's dad died. But Maci feels guilty and says it's her fault? Huh?! I get that you may have survivors guilt, and maybe ask yourself why did I survive. But honey you didn't cause the crash. And then Logan blaming her and being all like I can't look at you. Mah boy what the hell? I get you wanting some type of drama to deepen the story but this wasn't it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I loved everything about this book. I loved Maci and Logan. In the beginning we learn that Logan has a baby daughter that he had no idea about. Then he had a babysitter who left because of college and we learn that Maci is the replacement for six weeks. I loved how Maci cared so deeply for Amelia Logan's daughter because in the beginning he was scared to have someone new baby sit her but overtime He trusted her and Amelia also learned to care for Maci to. and I loved how Logan helped her write her book because she was in a dark hole because of the accident she had where she lost her dad. I also loved how they told each other they loved each other because it was such a sweet moment and they were afraid of one of the not feeling the same.
It’s been years since I’ve slept near a female or held one this intimately. When I’m away from Amelia, sure, I’ll have a quick hookup. Or maybe let a chick suck on my cock if she begs for it. But after I blow my load, I’m out. Or I politely get her out of my room, depending on the situation.
Ughhhhh why is shit like this necessary? Like seriously 😒 we already know he was a huge manwhore before he had his child.....do I also need this bs in my head too 🙄
I was enjoying it until the “twist.” I felt it coming but it was so forced and made no sense. She was going on a green light, the baby mama ran a red light, yet she feels guilty? 40% of drama for no reason.
EXCUSEEEE ME???? Who gave Logan Sterns permission to be THE book boyfriend like that??
Maci McKenzie is a romance author that has lost her muse. She has lost her inspiration so she takes a job as the newest nanny for the hottest single dad in the NHL, Logan Sterns. She’s only supposed to be his daughter, Amelia’s, nanny for six weeks until he finds a replacement but her inspiration starts coming back to her in more ways than one….
“You gonna go inside and write?” “Maybe,” I say slowly, narrowing my eyes in question. “Why?” “You’re going to use a certain shower scene, aren’t you?” He nods his head proudly. “I gave you some solid material last night. You’re welcome, by the way.”
HEHE gah the tension, the backstories, the relationship Maci & Amelia have is just perfect, and THE SPICE?!? Absolutely unwell. I also loved how the story she was writing in the book was the actual book. A fun take on the story for sure.
PSA: Don’t read this in public you will be blushing and giggling like a fool
Tropes: -single dad X nanny -forced proximity -NHL player X romance author -hidden identity
I'm Logan Sterns--right winger for the New England Bay Sharks. I was on the cover of Sports Il- lustrated last year in a briefs campaign. A photo shoot that got me more ass than an airport toilet seat. I'm fierce on the ice. Feared even. But I'm a good time off of it.
Alright hot shot 🙄 calm your titties.
I have to say though his "dad jokes" are hilarious 😂
This is a trope that I've read times and times again, it's not a favourite but this is different in that she's actually an accomplished romance author who's been struggling a bit lately and she took up nannying as a favour for her friend.
Maci had a little "big" visit through her back door. *gasp* shocking! As if it's not a rite of passage with romance authors nowadays. 😐
The twist at around 66% is twisting 😄 since they got close and cozy early on in the book, this third act breakup was expected and bound to happen. Was it justified? Eh... did they go about it right? Meh.. but the author wanted to throw in a few sad punches to liven the plot.
Even though their love declarations were more on the cheesier side but I will let that pass. 🫡
And finally for all that is holy, AUTHORS!!!!! Please I beg you to research what kids actually sound and do according to their age. Children of all ages in romance are depicted as these little wise humans with words larger than themselves. It is not convincing! It is not relatable! And it's utterly ridiculous! So please refrain from adding Children into your plot if they're gonna sound like little owls whose only role is to make the adults' life easier!
I liked this book. Logan Sterns is just a big adorable goofball and his love for his daughter is everything. And Maci is this level-headed self accomplished and smart woman. My kind of MFC.
Thank you Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the ALC to review!
This was my first of Hannah’s (I’m behind in the game, I know) but it definitely won’t be my last! I really enjoyed this story and the characters! Logan and Maci were great and their personalities meshed well together! Logan was so sweet, caring, and a little bit goofy (cue the dad jokes)! But hidden under that he has quite the mouth on him 🤭 I loved that he became Maci’s muse for her romance book and offered her vital demonstrations for her to regain her ability to write spice! I also adored Maci and Amelia, Logan’s daughters, relationship and loved how close they grew! Overall, it was really cute and I can’t wait to read more from this author! 💖
Miss Hannah, what did you put in this book?!? 🫢 I ate this up in one sitting and was so sad when I finished! I honestly think Logan is my favorite MMC of Hannah’s 🥹 and that’s saying a lot after reading Cade’s story! Logan just has it all. The sweet and goofy side, filthy mouth, amazing dad, great friend and partner. He was just so perfect. Maci was a really likable FMC. The only complaint that I have is that I wish their story was longer because I loved them so much 🥹🫶🏻
Maci is a romance author who finds herself struggling to write anything since her life flipped upside down 3 years ago. She has no inspiration to her writing anymore. When her good friend, Poppy, asks if she will nanny her husband’s teammates daughter for six weeks, Maci agrees because maybe the change of pace will help her find inspiration for her next book. She doesn’t expect for that agreement to turn her world upside down in the best way possible.
Logan has been in the NHL for a few years now and has been solo parenting Amelia since the day she was born three years ago. He’s never wanted to add a woman into their lives until his daughter’s new nanny has him questioning everything. He doesn’t expect that when he offers to help inspire her ✨spicy✨ scenes for her book, that it would lead to him falling head over heels for her. Maci is unlike any other woman he’s ever met. She’s everything to him and Amelia. But when Maci finds out the truth about what happened three years ago, everything changes… how can they move on when they’re connected in so many more ways than they ever expected?
Tropes - - Pro Hockey Player 🏒 - Single Dad X Nanny - Forced Proximity - Romance Author - MMC has a filthyyyy mouth & has major golden retriever vibes - Dad jokes for days 🤣
very quick and easy spicy hockey romance read. nothing life changing or brain altering; but good enough to get out of/avoid a slump or just satisfy that sports romance craving you’ve been having!
these characters were all fun and lovable, especially our lil girl amy<3 the romance was believable but the story felt a bit recycled tbh. that doesn’t have to be a bad thing tho, sometimes you just need a reliable storyline you know you’ll love to scratch an itch you’re having or appease your mood reader brain.
3.75⭐️ rounded up for vibes, not an intricate plot line or especially deep emotional connections! i read on audio and would def recommend, the narrators were terrific:)
Logan Sterns was absolutely FILTHY and I was not prepared for it. Hannah needs to put a trigger warning at the beginning of this book. WARNING: Before reading, please make sure your significant other or favorite ✨toy✨ is available to be used and abused.
I was absolutely not prepared for Logan Sterns and how fast I fell in love with him. He was perfection. He was sweet and spicy in all the best ways.
I adored the relationship that Maci and Amelia formed. Maci felt like the missing puzzle piece for both Amy and Logan. She fit so seamlessly into their lives.
I did not want to put this book down, but I had to step outside for a few gulps of cool fall air because sheeesh😮💨
Hannah never misses a hockey romance - we truly always are blessed when she releases one 👏

Oh. My. Fffff….flipping (don’t want to own Amelia’s swear jar🤭) Gosh. THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING. I thought I was obsessed with the boys from Brooks University, but these New England Bay Sharks men….oooof, they are definitely going to put up a fight for that top spot.
Logan, Amelia, Maci and of course Clyde have my entire heart and I will be blissfully ignoring any and all criticism of this book. Like come on, a professional hockey playing single dad with a FILTHY mouth, a struggling spicy romance author who helps out a friend by being a nanny, an adorable little girl who loves excavators and highland cows, and a lovable, drool covered bullmastiff…seriously what more could you ask for!? Needless to say I loved this book so much and I didn’t want it to end. I need the next book in the series ASAP!
Sometimes I feel like the single dad x nanny romances can be redundant and over done but let me tell you something, this one was so perfectly executed. Tell Me Lies is definitely hands down one of my favorite single dad x nanny hockey romances for so many reasons and here is why:
1. I absolutely loved Logan Sterns. This man is a daddy in every sense of the way. Not only is this man a sexy hockey player but he is also one of the BEST fictional dads. His start to fatherhood was rough and I really feel for him but he is so present with Amelia. This man also has all of the corny dad jokes. Like he knows they are corny but he can't help him. He embraces the fact that he is such a dad. On top of that this man has a filthy mouth on him. And the fact that he was Maci's inspiration for her next book, say less.
2. The next reason why I loved this book? Maci! I felt like she was such a different type of nanny than more. Like she didn't seek out this job. She has a career, which is as a romance author. But after a tragedy she has had a writing block, hence why she is helping out Logan. But the way that this woman embraced Amelia like her own and their relationship was so heartfelt. I also found it interesting that Logan and Maci are connected in a very tragic way on the day Amelia was born.
3. The last reason I absolutely loved this book: Amelia! She was a lovely addition to this book. She was smart for a 3 year old, has such a strong and loving relationship with Logan and truly bonded with Maci. I also loved that she loved Maci's mastiff and highland cows, because same! I never thought I could relate to a fictional toddler on such a unique level before in my life.
At the end of the day, I absolutely loved this book. I didn't want to put it down. The plot was great. The characters were lovely. And this one has me so excited for what is to come with this series!
You should most definitely read this book if you like: - Hockey Romance - Single Dad x Nanny - Forced Proximity - Golden Retriever MMC - Romance Author FMC
* I would like to say THANK YOU to Hannah Gray and Wordsmith Publicity for allowing me the pleasure to read Tell Me Lies as an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts, opinions and review.
When I heard that Logan was getting his own book I was sooo excited and let me tell you it did NOT disappoint!! I love Hannah’s writing!! She just keeps getting better and better! If Hannah Gray writes it, it’s an automatic read/ buy for me!
Tell Me Lies is the first book in the New England Bay Sharks Series following Logan Sterns & Maci Mackenzie. Maci is a romance author that has lost her muse. She is struggling trying to write a new book and losing her inspiration so she ends up taking a job as a nanny to the hottest single dad in the NHL. Logan only has one girl in his life and that’s his daughter until he figures out that Maci is having a hard time so what does he do? Offers her to be her inspiration on writing a smutty scene and being the perfect book boyfriend.
Logan Sterns was SOO FILTHY and I wasn’t expecting that! He is literally the definition of a perfect book boyfriend! He was sweet and spicy! The way he treated Maci was everything! I adored the relationship between Maci & Amelia! They were so cute! She cared for her like she was one of her own! Melted my heart! ♥️
Hannah Gray never misses!! especially with a hockey romance, I eat them up EVERY TIME!

Logan Sterns ladies 😍 Hannah knows how to write a hockey hottie. The swoony single dad with a filthy mouth and the corniest dad jokes 😂 I truly loved Logan’s character which is no surprise because I loved his brother Link in Broken Boy as well. The way he stepped up to the plate and became the best dad overnight was so sweet. His relationship with Amelia melted my heart.
Maci Mackenzie is a romance writer suffering from writer’s block so she agrees to nanny for the most adorable 3 year old, in hopes that a change in scenery may give her some inspiration. She got more than she bargained for in terms of inspiration when Logan starts serving up more than paychecks 😂.
This was such a cute single dad x nanny romance with an added twist of a romance writer FMC! Hannah set up book two perfected and I CANNOT WAIT for it!

A spicy and emotionally deep single dad x nanny/struggling romance writer, forced proximity, dual POV romance by a new to me Indie author. This was fun, heartfelt and fast-paced. Perfect for fans of authors like Helena Hunting or Tessa Bailey and I'm excited to read more in this series. It was also good on audio! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
“Then, fucking lie to me, Mace. Tell me fucking lies because I’m not ready to ruin us.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
He’s a single dad He’s a star hockey player He’s a funny fella He’s very dirty in the sheets He’s the perfect book boyfriend
Logan Sterns is in need of a nanny. He needed to find someone he can trust quickly. Maci is a struggling romance author who needs to take a step back to recoup. This became the perfect opportunity for her to find inspiration. You know the old saying when one door closes another one opens ,this situation is the epitome of that saying. Maci became close with Amelia and Logan became close with Maci. So much so that he became her muse. So, why not test out some of the inspiration.
I devoured this single dad x nanny trope. Throw in a dog ,I’m a goner. This story was funny, heartbreaking, and extremely spicy. Hannah came in guns blazing with the spice. I’m still fanning myself just thinking about it. Logan Sterns is chefs kiss perfection. He’s going to be hard to beat. I love the whole vibe of this book. Let’s see what other masterpiece Hannah has awaiting for us.
Tropes: hockey romance, single dad x nanny, golden retriever vibes, romance author, forced proximity, he falls first, found family.
Thank you so much Hannah and Wordsmith for the ARC!
I had put off this author for a while because her reviews were just too polarizing. Seeing this audio pop up on Hoopla I took a chance.
Besides my issues with the plot I can definitely tell this authors writing and storytelling are just not for me. The character development is non existent and the spice scenes seemed unrealistic and forced for me. The MMC has plenty of dirty talk but I just found it cringe and too much pandering to catch phases or what is supposed to be sexy 🙄
But my biggest issue is with the “plot twist”. If you read the blurb and have any sort of deductive reasoning skills you can tell within the first 10% what it’s about. However, it didn’t work AT ALL that way it was written. Had the “fault” been reversed it would have made so much more sense and Maci’s “guilt” and Logan’s anger more understandable. 🤷🏻♀️
This book was so corny but so freaking cute! It had me giggling and smiling like a fool the whole book. Single dad x nanny romance books will never get old. Logan was a man child but you couldn’t help but love him especially with his dirty mouth. Maci is a fighter and I loved watching her find happiness again. Amelia was adorable. I loved watching her bond with Maci and the father daughter relationship was so sweet. But my favorite was the relationship Amelia had with Clyde. Overall I recommend this book if you want something quick and easy to read.
TELL ME LIES by: Hannah Gray 10/10 stars 3.5 spice
someone hold my beer because Hannah Gray has done it again…. WOW…. she has written the ultimate book boyfriend of 2024 so far..
Logan Sterns is a single dad, professional hockey player that needs a new nanny.. let’s just say he is a little over protective and can’t find anyone. when Poppy and Walker mention a friend of theirs needing something until her writing picks back up- no one- sees it coming… but ladies and gentlemen Logan Sterns is volunteering to be real life inspiration for her romance novel..
Maci Mackenzie went through something awful, and now she is struggling to write. When she decides she needs a change of scenery and signs up to be a nanny for a famous hockey player, she never imagines falling in love with the little girl. After struggling to right the intimate parts in her romance book, the DIRTIEST MOUTHED MAN (Logan Sterns) volunteers as tribute and HOLY HECK YALL…….
secrets about who Maci really is just may make the Third Act Break Up SO PAINFUL…
Logan Sterns is EVERY.FREAKING.THING. He’s filthy, but he’s a cinnamon roll and the best dang single daddie there is… HE WILL LIVE RENT FREE IN MY HEAD.
Maci is amazing and Amelia is the most precious. awesome book sis, YOU ARE JUST GETTING STARTED HANNAH & I LOVE WATCHING YOU SOAR!!!!
Okay so….. what do I do now??? Hannah you can’t keep blowing me away because I’m running out of room on my book boyfriend list here. LOGAN??? Mr. Reformed playboy turned golden retriever daddy??? I. Am. Stunned. I’m still looking for this man’s red flag. This one was heartbreaking in the best way. Just enough to get my monthly cry out, and then the feel good I needed to heal from that cry😅
Maci, Amelia, Logan, and Clyde are my new kryptonite. What am I supposed to do until this next book? Instructions unclear.
This nanny/single dad story was beautiful, heartfelt and absolutely delicious!
Logan Sterns was definitely top tier book boyfriend material. He was sweet, funny and definitely spicy! The way he put his daughter first in every aspect of his life was swoon worthy! His daughter, Amelia, was the cutest little thing. And then you have Maci, who was a total sweetheart. The way she loved on Amelia, right from the start, was beautiful. I’m glad she was able to let go, be herself and discover what real love is. Together, she and Logan, had the best chemistry and brought the spice! Their love story coupled with their backstories made it even more special.
I loved that we got to see some of the Brooks U boys throughout the story!
Hannah, I absolutely loved this book! Started it last night and finished it the second I woke up today!
First, Amelia literally made me smile so much with her love of highland cows and how smart she is! And Logan literally make my heart so full seeing how much he loves his daughter! I couldn't get enough of him and he's a top book boyfriend for sure!! I love how despite everything, he really stepped up and has done his best for Amelia. And Maci fit so perfectly into their lives as Amelia's nanny despite her initial reservations. She's also been through a lot, but we get to see her grow as she continues to work through past trauma.
The tension between Logan and Maci is THICC and the mouth on that man.....holy smokes he know's exactly what to say to get Maci all hot and bothered. It's safe to say that I will be reading more of Hannah's books after how much I loved this one!
What to expect: -Single dad x nanny -Hockey player MMC -Smutty author FMC -Forced proximity -He falls first
Meet Logan Sterns: 5 star dad in the streets, and Daddy in the sheets 😮💨
As a single dad, Logan has found a great balance of being in the NHL, juggling fatherhood, and coming up with the best dad jokes. But when his nanny has to move, he needs someone he can trust to help with his daughter, Amelia. Enter struggling romance writer Maci. She helps Logan with Amy, and he helps Maci with her book *inspiration.*
The little family these 4 form (yes, 4 because we cannot forget Clyde) is adorable. Logan and Maci have true soulmate vibes; they were put in each other’s paths for a reason, and it just takes some untangling to see it. I love when the book title works its way into the story, and here might be my favorite instance of this I’ve read—breath hitched, got goosebumps, perfection.
Loved seeing characters from two of Hannah’s other series pop in this one, and excited to see what she has up her sleeve for book 2.
