The Tryst: A Blackburn Novel (Bluegrass Empires Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 361 ratings

As the middle son, Trey Blackburn dedicates his days to the family business, working to ensure that they remain at the top of the saddelbred industry. His time away from the farm is another story. Not one to get tied up in a long-term relationship, he’s the love ‘em and leave ‘em sort of guy. But Trey’s hesitation to commit might be deeper than not wanting to put in the time and effort. His reluctance may have more to do with the blond beauty who just blew back into town and the things they left in the past that have been neither forgiven nor forgotten.

Holland Rhodes may not have been born into the Blackburn name, but she was once considered part of the family. Having a less-than-ideal home life, Holland spent as much time as she could with the Blackburns, the quintessential dynasty full of love and southern hospitality. Dubbed an honorary member, Holland thought their connection would last a lifetime, but one shocking revelation changed everything.

Having left Shelbyville for a fresh start, Holland has limited her time back in Kentucky for the past decade, avoiding both of her families—the one into which she was born and the one into which she was welcomed. But the death of her father and the uncertain future of the family business has brought Holland back to face her past, one Blackburn at a time.

With old feelings reignited and ready to move their relationship forward, everything crashes to a halt when tragedy strikes. Their painful history in danger of repeating itself, Trey and Holland may find that even true love can’t overcome the darkest days.

The Tryst: A Blackburn Novel is an enemies to lovers novel within the Bluegrass Empires series. All books in the series can be enjoyed as standalones.

A selfless act, not one but two family deaths, recriminations, forgiveness, and family are all prominent themes in this second chance romance. Trey Blackburn needs to explain and make amends to Holland Rhodes for his actions eleven years ago. She's not exactly open to forgiving him. But being back in Shelbyville and surrounded by her adopted family just feel right. History repeats irself once again and it's like the hurt from all those intervening years has doubled. Trey may have lost her not once but twice. It takes some great advice from an unexpected quarter and a little heavenly intervention to get Trey to ho after the woman who was always meant to be his.

This is book 3 and really can read it as standalone but it’s better start at book 1.
This is story of Trey he is working at his family ranch. Lives with his brother Gabe.
He is trying to fix a mistake he made in the past when the love of his life comes back to bury her father.
Holland is back to bury her father and avoid the one Mn who broke her heart.
But fate has ways of making them see what’s important. As they relive the mistakes of past and some twist of pain.
This story was sweet as he worked to make her trust again. But it had twist I didn’t see coming had me in tears and heart broken.
This was well written story and does have a HEA.

    Audiobook Review
    Fantastic series
Trey Blackburn and Holland Rhodes had a secret romance the summer before she was leaving for college. Just as they were going to tell his family, his brother told him that he had a crush on Holland and was going to ask her out. Trey chose - wrongly- to break up with Holland and chose his brother's feelings over Holland. Holland left for college with a broken heart and hadn't been back uuntil now for her father's funeral. Will Trey be able to win her love back? Or will life and family come between them again? This was a wonderful story with a lot of heartbreak. Sean Masters and Kit Swann narration brought the story to life.

This book broke me. The bond they all had as a family. The love they all had for each other. The reuniting of old friends and lover's. Trying to go on after a tragedy nearly torn them apart. Great book

Not the way I thought this series would end. How do authors decide a death should happen. I just don’t know but it made no sense to me. I would have given it a 1 rate but the author wrote it, I usually enjoy her stories, I read it, but this made no sense and I wish I never came upon the series and invested my time reading them. The characters were a bit immature to me. it was just like book two in the characters first get together, split and reunion. I was not connecting with these two but man I am so disappointed because it was unnecessary to end it this way.

Trey Blackburn has one big regret, Holland Rhodes. And now she’s back in town for her father’s funeral.
Holland Rhodes never had a good relationship with her parents. Her dad was an alcoholic and her mother an enabler that never put her child first. She always felt more at home with the Blackburn family. Until Trey broke that tie and she left home for good and never looked back. Now she’s back to bury her father, deal with his mess of a business, deal with her mother and face Trey Blackburn. She hopes this doesn’t take long so she can get back to her life in Europe.
Life is funny and it turns out that maybe she can forgive Trey and stay in town to run her father’s business. When Trey and Holland reconcile and re start their steamy relationship all seems like it will work out for them. But when tragedy strikes, that happy life she envisions is threatened by family obligations and regrets. Can Trey and Holland find themselves in a happily ever after or has it all been ruined yet again?

I was blown way, it was so darn good. It's been a long time since a book made me sob. This gamily is awesome, and Iwish I were a member of the Blackburn family. This book is exciting, and funny, and heart wrenching. The men are swoony and the women are strong and full of love. This is going to be one of my all time favorite contemporary romance series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trey and Holland❤️‍🩹
Reviewed in Australia on November 3, 2024
Trey and Holland have known each other since they were young - the Blackburns were Holland’s second family essentially. They dated in secret, fell in love and just as they were about to confess their feelings to the family, things went pear shaped. Fast forward 11 years, Holland has returned to Shelbyville, to bury her father who just passed away. Can she forgive Trey for what he did to them 11 years ago and move forward or will what he did always hang over their heads?

Now to be honest, I didn’t read any reviews on this story as I wanted to experience it like everyone else reading it for the first time. It takes a lot for me to cry and get emotional, but this book definitely got me there😭 That ending though was perfect and I loved it, but definitely could’ve done without the emotional aspect…but it wouldn’t be a Sawyer Bennett book without surprises and emotional twists either🙌
