Knowing You: A Single Dad Romance (Words We Never Said Book 1) Kindle Edition
"Oh my God, Briar! Where did you get that prosthetic leg?"
Things as a parent Lane thought he'd never say for four hundred, Alex.
But that’s par for the course in Lane Ashbury’s life considering everything is on the verge of falling apart. He not only has a toddler building her skills as a professional klepto, but he’s also on the verge of divorce, and hoping desperately to save his business before it goes under.
Luckily, the owner of the stolen leg might just be an angel in disguise when he offers to be Lane’s new nanny instead of pressing charges.
The whole thing would be perfect if Bowen Galanos didn’t make Lane feel things. If he didn’t make Lane question everything he thought he knew about himself every time Bowen's touch lingered just a little too long.
And when Bowen offers some no-strings benefits to their friendship to see if maybe Lane’s not as straight as he thought, Lane finds it impossible to say no. I mean, it’s not like he’s going to realize he’s madly in love with his nanny, right?
That would be absurd.
That would be ridiculous.
And knowing him, that would be exactly his luck.
Knowing You is the first book in a light-hearted, single-dads romance series. It features a toddler with sticky fingers, a tired dad who just wants to be loved, a former stunt actor who craves to be needed, Henry Cavill man crushes, a hint of sweet, a twist of angst, a steamy bisexual awakening, and the happiest of happily ever afters.

Lane & Bowen - despite their individual histories and challenges - drew me in and had me rooting for their success. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I freaking loved Briar. Briar was literally my favorite characters throughout the book. She was such a sweet and cute little girl who had that sassy side to her.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2024What a wonderful story told in such a loving and beautiful way. After reading the blurb, I was expecting something very light and funny but without much substance. While it is funny and has very little angst, it is much more. It's the story of two men learning to care very deeply about each first as friends. Overcoming their difficult pasts and making a family together. It is a slow burn with plenty of comical moments. The end is worth it when they open up to each other and get their hea.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2024I’m a big EM Lindsey fan and I typically read the books in one go. The plot was interesting and both characters had things they need to work on within themselves. The pacing was kind of slow for me and I found myself skipping pages. Bowens struggle with worth after his accident didn’t feel like it was accepted by him. The issues with Lane and custody felt unresolved especially with how it was perceived as the main conflict. I understood not wanting Briar in the middle of the parental conflict but the author never told us how Briar felt about not having her mom around and we never saw a confrontation or resolution on that end. We were given a a minimal and subpar “resolution” scene and left with that.
I hated the ending. It didn’t leave me feeling good. I felt like maybe the author reached their word count or something and abruptly cut the story short. Even the last scene felt forced. It’s almost made me feel like a second book would be needed for these two because I just felt like too much was left up to the reader to speculate.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2024From the start you felt Kane's frustration and despondency. Our hackles rose over a mother who took a 2+ year vacation from her toddler. And we empathize with Bowen over his rejection and trouble adjusting to his new body. Put that all together with a klepto toddler and you have tension woven all through this story. Well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2024Briar totally makes this a must read. She is hilarious. I highly recommend this book. It is full of emotion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Picking up the pieces after relationship implosion
3.25/5 There were parts of this that I enjoyed a lot. I liked how much Lane and Bowen cared about and for one another, but the lack of communication about those feelings (or the depth/truth of them) dragged on for a really long time. Although the friend group was generally supportive and awesome, they were also sometimes so pushy about blind dates and set ups that it made me really uncomfortable. (Especially as one of the characters who earlier condemned it then does it to the MC later.)
While Briar’s thieving tendencies are the foundation of the meet-cute, it actually seems to be a much more serious issue that never actually gets dealt with. (Also, if you realised that your neighbour's toddler was wandering away from the house multiple times per day/week and the dad has no clue, isn't letting him know the responsible thing, not just bringing the child back? I mean, what if you don't see them leave one day and they get hurt?)
I think that Briar and Lane could have benefited very much from therapy. The book does acknowledge the seriousness of what Lane has been through with Sana, but I think recovering from that abuse needed more than just an awesome new guy and friends.
I appreciated that both Bowen and Lane had uncertainties about themselves and the relationship, and they worked to reassure one another and gain confidence. I liked their cozy moments together, taking care of Briar, cooking, and being a family. I really did like Lane and Bowen together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Großartig
Klare Leseempfehlung. Claudia

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful single dad romance
I really enjoyed this story of Lane and his daughter Briar and Bowen the sexy amputee and trained manny, who is staying next door. The author does such great at including characters with disabilities in their books and this one didn't disappoint. It is a slow burn, lots of laughs, a bit of angst and drama from his estranged ex wife. Briar was so adorable and a great addition to the story. Bowen was exactly what Lane needed, he was a great at looking after Briar and at making Lane feel loved, wanted and like he was someone important. I liked the bond the single dads had and how they looked out for each other. Lane'e employees were also so fierce and loyal to him every step of the way. Great start to the new series. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring
Due too the lack of depth, both in the storyline and the characters I had no emotional investment in this book. The storyline just dragged on and consequently I skipped a lot of it. Unfortunately, the author even failed to make the toddler funny.
