Domenico Napolitano 2025
Organizational Studies and Disability: Identity Work, Accommodations, Accessibility
(Scroll Down for English)

Domenico Napolitano 2025 Taiwan Lecture Series:
Organizational Studies and Disability: Identity Work, Accommodations, Accessibility
🔶 Overview
In the last decades, the social model of disability has shifted the focus from the individual impairment to the barriers produced by social organization. Such a shift goes along with a new consideration of disability as culture and political identity, beyond deficit views.
Scholars, activists and artists are exploring the implications of such a shift, highlighting the role of disability as a perspective that fosters social transformation, relationality and creativity. This series of lectures explores organizational studies and disability following three perspectives. Disability and contemporary existentialism engages with philosophy and sociology texts to reflect on how the “dis-” particle deconstructs traditional ideas of subjectivity, identity and existence – often implicitly related to “ability”. AI and Voices in the Machine explores how technological renderings of supposed human abilities, such as voice and intelligence, are reproduced in technoableism typical of assistive technology, but also potentially reimagined and cripped. Accessibility in Disability Arts sheds light on how accessibility is being actively reclaimed by artists as an aesthetic principle, beyond a mere ancillary function.
🗣️Speakers: Domenico Napolitano (Tenure Track Researcher, Law and Organizational Studies for the Promotion of Diversity and Inclusion, Scuola Superiore Meridionale, Italy)
📌 Note: The lecture will be conducted in English, but discussion and interaction in both Mandarin and English are welcome!
